Town names Royal Oaks Park courtyard after Breanna Vergara

The Town of Miami Lakes recently broke ground for a new courtyard at Royal Oaks Park named after Brenna Vergara, who died in 2014 from a rare heart condition during dance class.
Vice Mayor Nelson Rodriguez proposed the idea at regular Town Council meeting, saying Vergara is an inspiration to the community and inspired several Miami Lakes regulations that require athletes and people participating in physical activities at the town’s parks and facilities to get a cardiogram to detect any health-related issues.
The town honors Vergara with the annual Breanna Vergara KK and Color Run which is held in December.
