Kiwanis Club hosts annual charity square dance on Oct. 21

Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces on a five year project to raise $110 million dollars to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus in third world countries. This project was appropriately named the ELIMINATE project and for just a $1.80 a child or mother is vaccinated against tetanus. 

To date over $100 million has been raised towards meeting the goal. This being accomplished through the efforts of Kiwanis clubs worldwide and their sponsored leadership clubs (SLPs) such as CKI clubs at the collegiate level, Key Clubs at the high school level, Builders clubs at the middle school level and K-Kids clubs at the elementary school level and Aktion clubs (for adults with disabilities).

After successful events in years past, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes announced that it will be holding the Third Annual Square Dance to benefit ELIMINATE on Saturday October 21 from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the Roberto Alonso Community Center at Royal Oaks Park located at 16500 N,W. 87 Avenue in Miami Lakes. 

There will be a professional square dance caller who will be teaching novices how to square dance. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event as well as various items available in a silent auction. The ticket price for the event is $15 per person. Ticket purchasers can make out their check to Kiwanis International Foundation, a 501c3 organization, for tax purposes which are tax deductible as allowed by law.

The Kiwanis Club is presently soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals for the silent auction. Last year’s auction items ranged from gift baskets, gift cards to local restaurants and stores to high end golf clubs by Odyssey and much more. If a business has a donation for the silent auction, the Kiwanis Club will arrange for pickup of the item(s).
