Pace drama students earn superior honors at Florida State Thespian Festival
Pace High School’s Thespian Society and Theatre Academy Program students returned home with an assortment of awards following their participation in the 2019 Florida State Thespian Festival held from March 20 to 23.
This was the 12th year that PACE’s Troupe 5457 attended the festival in Tampa.
Five individual competitors earned Superior awards, first place in a variety of categories, senior Melissa Alvarez and sophomore Isabella Cardoso for solo musical, senior Elysse Bernstein for publicity design, seniors Alyssa Mitchell and Kimberly Vilbrun-Francois for monologue. The group also received an Excellent award, second place in the large group musical category for their performance of “Blackout” from the musical “In the Heights.”
Throughout the festival, PACE thespians had an opportunity to attend various workshops taught by professionals in the theater industry. Students benefited from workshops in voice, acting, song analysis, improv and choreography. The group also supported fellow district students from Palmetto Senior High School as they attended their rendition of “The Drowsy Chaperone” musical.
It has been an incredibly successful year for the Pace Theatre program. Earlier in March, the students showcased the breadth of their talents in their spring musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved show “The Sound of Music”.
