MLEC principal, academy leaders participate in the NAF Annual Conference

NAF, formally known as the National Academy Foundation, is a national network of education, business and community leaders who work together to ensure high school students are college, career and future ready.

NAF’s educational design ignites students’ passion for learning and gives businesses the opportunity to shape America’s future workforce by transforming the learning environment to include science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) infused industryspecific curricula and workbased learning experiences, including internships.

Two of Miami Lakes Educational Center’s (MLEC) academies, the Health Sciences Academy and the Information Technology Academy are distinguished, nationally accredited NAF academies.

Principal Lourdes Diaz traveled with academy leaders Glenda Algzaze and Marlon Vernon to Washington D.C. to participate in the NAF Annual Conference that brings together education, business and community leaders to address some of the biggest challenges facing education and the economy.

Among the many guest speakers and presenters were former Secretary of Education John King, who told the audience, “There is nothing that is wrong in public education that cannot be fixed by something that is right in public education.”
