Miami Lakes Library sets June programs

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs that are available for the public during May and early June:
For Children and Families:
Movies and Stories for Kids – Watch favorite movies with family and friends. Movies being shown this month are “Treasure Planet,” (PG); “The Cat from Outer Space” (PG); “Ratchet & Clank” (PG), and “Turbo” (PG). Events made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Talking is Teaching. Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers – Stories, songs and activities for toddlers. Best for ages 18 months to 3 years old at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27.
Baby and Me Group – A free 10-week series giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to develop close relationships with their infants ages birth to 6 months. Space is limited, registration is required and closes once group is full. Series runs weekly from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays from now to July 16. Program sponsored by The Children’s Trust. SUMMER READING STARTS Space: A Universe of Stories from June 8 to August 3 - Kick-off: Salty Sue’s Celestial Stories – During this interactive storytime, Salty Sue brings the magic of the moon, tides and stars with tales of Polynesian voyagers and ancient navigators who used the stars for guidance. Made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8.
Lego Challenge – Challenge other LEGO master builders. Competition is open to builders ages 5 to 12. Made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15.
Coding Doctors for Kids: Scratch 3.0 – Kids will learn to code their way up to a real video game on the Scratch platform. Presented by Coding Doctors Kids Club. Space is limited, contact branch to register. Best for ages 8 to 16 years at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 28.
Constellations – Discover the stories behind the constellations and create your own constellation. Materials provided, space is limited, contact branch to register. Best for ages 5 to 12 years at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22.
Space Warrior Training – Does the Force flow strong in you? Rey, the newest Space Warrior, will teach how to use the Force to overcome the dark side and bring order and peace to the Galaxy. Training session will be followed by a special craft activity. Made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29
For Teens:
Teen Oasis – Try your hand at galaxy slime, space painting, perler bead crafts and more. For ages 8-18 at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 11 and 25.
Retro Game Night - Play retro video games on the big screen or classic board games around the table. Suitable for ages 8-18 years at 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, June 10, 17 and 24.
For Adults:
Purls of Wisdom – Learn basic knitting and stitching. Materials will be provided. Best for ages 18 and up at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 11, 18 and 25.
Strum the Lute: Tai Chi for Beginners – Practice this ancient tradition and learn gentle movements to increase strength, flexibility and balance. Class is led by library staff. Best for ages 18 and up at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 5, 12. 19 and 26.
Meditation – Join in mediation derived from Raja Yoga, a discipline that helps develop inner calm, clear thinking and personal well-being. Meets at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7.
Book Discussion Group - This month’s selection is “The Stars are Fire” by Anita Shreve. Meets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18
Mario Diaz-Balart Outreach Table - A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will be available to discuss federal issues and address any concerns a constituent may have with a federal agency, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26.
Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
