FIU track/field stars Rains, Cutliff are All-Americans
Gabrielle Rains earned Second-Team All-American honors in her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships taking 13th in the discus in Austin, Texas while Clasrissa Cutliff’s decorated career as an FIU Panther came to a conclusion in the high jump.
Rains, a junior, threw 54.43m in the discus, the second best mark of her career. In qualifying for nationals, Rains threw her personal best of 56.90m at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
The second-team honors cap a season that began with injury for Rains rendering her unable to compete the entire indoor season.
Meanwhile, Cutliff earned All-American Honorable Mention honors placing 21st in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m. Competing in her seventh NCAA Championships Cutliff completed a career that saw her set the FIU school record in the high jump at 1.85m while advancing to the indoor and outdoor championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She finishes one of the most decorated careers in FIU history winning six Conference USA High Jump titles in addition to her All-American accolades.
