Jack McCall’s enshrinement into the inaugural Hall of Fame and a golf tournament in his memory will highlight the Optimist Club of Miami Lakes’ 50th anniversary celebration which includes a dinner to honor past presidents and volunteers of the organization.
The golf tournament kicks off the event at 8 a.m., July 27, at Shula’s Golf Club, 7601 Miami Lakes Drive, where the proceeds will benefit Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
The golf tournament will be held annually in honor of McCall, who devoted his life to coaching kids and helped improve their academic skills in the classroom for 45 years.
Later that night McCall will be inducted posthumously in the organization’s inaugural Hall of Fame at Don Shula’s Hotel in Miami Lakes where friends and family will share stories of his life and time spent at the organization where he created the Green Machine team for his Athletics T-Ball club.
McCall, who died last month at the age of 83, joined the Optimist Club in 1973.
In addition, the Golden anniversary event will recognize past club presidents and members, current members, Roland Gomez Scholarship award winners and sponsors that financially supported the club over the years.
The cost for dinner is $35 with the exception for the organization’s past presidents.
