HML wrestling team competes in regional meet

In its second year after a seven-year hiatus, the Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) wrestling team won the District 16 Championship. Nine members of the team advanced to compete for the Regional Championships at Jensen Beach on February 23 and 24.

Among the winners were freshman Jazmine Godinez and her brother Alex, a junior who qualified for the State Finals last year. This year, Alex Godinez won the Regional Championship match and qualified for the State Finals for a second year in a row. David Pozo Jr. also won his Regional Championship match and advanced to the State Championship tournament at Kissimmee.

The team is led by coach Michael Turner who has over 30 years of experience as a wrestling coach.
