Pace basketball team advances to semifinals against Mater Lakes


Monsignor Edward Pace High’s baseball team (17-6) advanced to the regional semifinal with a 4-2 victory over Gulliver Prep.

The Spartans, who won the district title with a 14-4 Mercy Rule victory over Mater Lakes Academy, faced the Bears in a rematch on Tuesday, May 15.

The Bears (20-9) won their regional quarterfinal match-up against Key West (19-10) with 2-1 victory, completing a season sweep of their division rival from Monroe County.

Barbara Goleman (11-8) lost to American Heritage, 10-0, in the regional quarterfinal, as the No. 3 ranked team in the state was too much for the Gators.

The Patriots face Archbishop McCarthy (18-10) in the regional semifinal following the Mavericks 8-3 victory over Miami Springs (10-5).

Nova (19-3) defeated Mater Academy, 3-1, in the regional quarterfinal and the Titans face Westland Hialeah (11-5), which defeated Cooper City, on Tuesday, May 15.

Mater Academy finished the season 11-8 and was district runner-up to Westland Hialeah.

In softball, Pace lost to Key West, 8-0, in the regional quarterfinal after winning the district championship over Mater Lakes Academy.

American lost to its playoff rival Coral Gables, 2-0, in the opening round of the regional tournament, ending a memorable season.

The Patriots won their 8th consecutive district championship this season with a victory over Hialeah High.

The Cavaliers (17-12) faceed Coral Reef (17-11) in the regional semifinal and lost 4-3.

For flag football, Pace fell to Edison, 13-0, in the regional final. The Spartans won the district tournament with victories over Mater Academy, iMater Academy and Norland. 

Mater Academy finished as district runner-up, as they fell to Krop.

The Lady Lions finished the season 11-3 and were ranked as high as the No. 24 team in the state.
