There is an incentive to shop and dine close to home this holiday season: Miami Lakes Local Lotto, which will give customers at restaurants and stores a chance to win prizes.
Kimberly Trelles, owner of the Trelles Cottage gift shop, created the game to celebrate small businesses and restaurants in town.
Sponsors include the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce and The Graham Companies.
“We wanted to create something fun and meaningful that brings our town together,” Trelles said. “These days, so many people turn to Amazon for their holiday shopping. But we have incredible local businesses right here in Miami Lakes,” she said.
“By supporting our neighbors, we not only give more meaningful gifts, we help our community thrive.”
The way it works: From Nov. 7 to Jan. 7, customers can pick up a free Miami Lakes Local Lotto card from a participating business (see sample photo).
After making a purchase, the business will dispense a stamp to be placed on its square in the card.
Cards must be delivered by Jan. 7 to The Trelles Cottage at 8140 NW 155th St., #101, Miami Lakes, FL 33016. Players who turn in completed Lotto cards (25 stamps) will receive a tote bag filled with goodies.
Each completed row of five stamps equals one entry into a bonus prize drawing; three completed rows equal three entries and a full card equals 10 entries into the bonus drawings.
Cards will then be entered into a raffle for the grand prize. Winners will be announced at the Jan. 14 Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce luncheon, held at the Miami Lakes Hotel on Main.
“Every stamp on your card represents a small business owner’s dream, and every visit helps keep that dream alive,” Trelles said.
