Many misconceptions revolve around pediatric food allergies which is why Dr. Vivian Hernandez-Trujillo has made it her life’s work to educate others in her field of allergy and immunology.
As part of her work, Hernandez-Trujillo has recently opened the Allergy and Immunology Care Center of South Florida in Miami Lakes. Her practice, located at 16371 N.W. 67 Avenue, will serve pediatric patients with immune systems more susceptible to disease.

Hernandez-Trujillo earned her degrees at Albany Medical School, and University of Tennessee in Memphis, and her specialty at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for allergies and immunology. A native of Connecticut, Hernandez-Trujillo may seem a long way from home but through her grandmother who is active in the Our Lady of the Lakes Church and School, where her daughters attend school, she has roots in the small town of Miami Lakes and so decided to open her practice here.

Having worked in the medical field for 18 years, Hernandez-Trujillo is a national expert on anaphylactic shock, and her specialty is food allergies.

“I know how difficult it can be to live with food allergies, since it runs in my family,” she said. “But I think there is a lot of misinformation about what can happen.”

Hernandez-Trujillo preaches the words “minutes matter” in regards to food allergies and how avoidance and being prepared are the ultimate defense against them.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, and American Academy of Pediatrics. She is on the Medical Advisory Board for the Immune Deficiency Foundation and board certified in Allergy and Immunology and in Pediatrics. She is the co-editor of a textbook for the Allergy and Immunology boards and a contributing author to the online medical resource "Uptodate" on the topic of Agammaglobulinemia.

Additionally, she was featured as part of a panel of doctors on the Continuing Medical Education (CME) show on Discovery Channel.
