There are about a dozen cow statues around town which are a public art project that is a tribute to Miami Lakes’ beginnings as the Graham dairy farm.
The statues attract tourists and families who often take photographs with them.
Companies have sponsored the statues and decorated them in logos or colors to represent their firms.
This particular cow statue, nicknamed Caterina by the owners of nearby La Strega Cucina Italian Steakhouse, graces the southeast corner of Main Street and Northwest 67th Avenue.
The restaurant, scheduled to open March 31, funded Caterina’s makeover by artist Luis Valle.
He often incorporates greenery and birds in his work and gave her a vibrant new coat with pink hibiscus blossoms, a hummingbird, an egret and flowery vines.
