Oct. 17 Debate among candidates for Miami Lakes mayor and a council seat. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St., 6:30 p.m.

Oct. 18 Mayor’s Chess Challenge. Presented by the Office of the Mayor. Students and families of all ages and skill levels are welcome to this free chess game against other players and local officials. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 5:30 p.m. Free. 

Oct. 19 Mental Health Awareness Fall Festival. Miami Lakes Mental Health Awareness Task Force will present its inaugural fall festival to raise awareness and funds for Girl Scout Troop 902’s Mission: Paw-sitive Impact, to match veterans in need with service dogs. Enjoy dishes from food trucks: Tumbao Buns, Churro Family & Ice Cream and Coconuts Delight. There will be music; face painting; a crafts table; pumpkin decorating and activities including a Zumba class, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A pumpkin patch will have a $5 coupon to redeem three small pumpkins per attendance group. Veterans Park, 15151 NW 82nd Ave. 10 a.m. $5 for pumpkin patch ticket. 

CANCELED Oct. 20 Mayor Cid’s Charity Pickleball Tournament. Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid will host a pickleball tournament to benefit Virtutem Populo and the Breanna Vergara Foundation. Sixteen teams of two may register for a round robin style competition. There will be food trucks and music at The Yards at Amelia, 7551 W. 4th Ave. Noon - 3 p.m. $150 to register, $5 for spectators. Oct. 24 State of the Town. Mayor Manny Cid will host his final State of the Town address, when he and staff will present awards to the Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Employee of the Year, recipient of the Key to The Town and Vendor Employee of the Year. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 6:30 p.m. 

Oct. 25 Halloween Senior Social. Hosted by the Elderly Affairs Committee. For folks 60+, there will be music, food, and a costume contest.  Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 NW 87th Ave. Noon - 3 p.m. Free.

Oct. 25 Trick or Treat on Main Street. Merchants, including MyGym, Miami Lakes CMX Theaters; Pizza Scene; Quest Martial Arts; Eye Candy and BB’s Bakehouse are inviting families to enjoy a safe Halloween in downtown Miami Lakes. Costumed kids must be accompanied by an adult and can bring their goodie bags to get treats, get their faces painted, there will be a raffle, discounts, prizes and a Halloween Fun House at MyGym. 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Main Street between Northwest 67th Avenue and Bull Run Road. The curfew will be enforced; after 8 p.m., minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free.

Oct. 26 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Join the FIT Therapy team for a 5K fun walk in support of breast cancer research. If you can’t make the walk, the team is accepting donations to support cancer research. loanDepot Park, 501 Marlins Way. Oct. 26 Nightmare on Montrose Halloween Event. The Youth Activities Task Force returns with its spooky Nightmare on Montrose, presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Enjoy a haunted house; pumpkin decorating station; food trucks; music; candy stations for trick or treating and a Halloween costume contest at this family-friendly annual event. Nov. 2 Miami Lakes Bar Association’s 1st Annual Domino Tournament. There will be food, drinks and spectators. Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 NW 87th Ave. 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. $100 for teams of two players and $25 for spectators, which includes food and one drink ticket. 21 and older. Nov. 3  45th Annual Veterans Parade. The Town of Miami Lakes and its Veterans Committee will present the oldest parade in Miami-Dade County with local marching bands, civic organizations, elected officials and veterans. Marchers step off at 10 a.m. from the corner of New Barn Road and Northwest 67 Avenue and will continue through the center of town before ending at Miami Lakes Town Hall for a veteran’s celebration.
