The corner eye center at 7840 Fairway Drive, Suite 105, has been a Miami Lakes staple for decades. The latest owners of the center are Dr. Jesus and Dr. Jose Cuevas, identical twin brothers that interned at this same location over a decade ago.
Jesus and Jose have gone through life together. While in school, both decided to follow in their father’s footsteps and become optometrists. Both took up DJ’ing as a hobby while attending college at the University of Florida and then the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and they met their wives at the same time at an optometry conference. They also live down the street from one another.
“Patients sometimes confuse us for one another,” said Jesus. “They’ll continue a conversation they had started the day before with my brother.”
The eye center offers comprehensive vision and eye exams, emergency eye care, designer eyewear, contact lens services and lasik consultation and management. Jesus and Jose are Board Certified Optometric Physicians. The Cuevas brothers have been practicing full-scope optometry since 2005 and have owned the Miami Lakes center for a handful of years.
The brothers co-own Cuevas Eye Center, and each co-own a separate eye center with their wives. Taking over the Cypress Village Shopping Center location was a longtime goal for the brothers who had appreciated and enjoyed their days interning at the center. They are still recognized by patients that have been visiting the eye center for decades. Despite living in Broward, Jesus and Jose cite the unique and family atmosphere of Miami Lakes that cemented their desire to own a business in the town.
The office has gone through major renovations over the years and the brothers, along with the rest of the owners in the building, are looking forward to updating the exterior of the building to match the work done by The Graham Companies in the rest of the shopping center.
The eye center is open Monday through Saturday.
