Sprint’s “1Million Project” was designed to help one million high school students in the U.S. who do not have Internet access at home reach their full potential by giving them devices and free high-speed Internet access.
In Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), Sprint will distribute 14,000 free wireless devices and service to participating M-DCPS students for up to four years while they attend high school.
Through the program students can receive a free smartphone, tablet, or hotspot device. A total of 3 GB per month of free high-speed LTE data while on the Sprint network and unlimited data is available at 2G speeds if the usage exceeds 3 GB in a month. Those that receive a smartphone will receive free hotspot capability and unlimited domestic calls and texts while on the Sprint network.
Additionally “Sprint Guardian,” a free content filter solution on the network designed to block access to content deemed harmful to minors as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) will also be included. 1Million Project devices are set by default to utilize Sprint Guardian when accessing the Internet through the Sprint network.
More than 200 students in MDCPS received wireless devices, tutorials, device set-up, and a help-desk for students at the device distribution that took place on Thursday October 6 at William H. Turner Technical Arts High School.
