A client for Healing Waters Massage Therapy suffered from an almost 90 degree angled back and told owners, Marlene Menendez and Marisol Cribeiro, that her one wish was to be able to dance at her son’s wedding. After massage therapy sessions done before and following a major surgery, that wish came true.
“That was one of those moments that you see the work you’re doing come full circle,” said Cribeiro.“It was a very moving experience for us.”
Healing Waters Massage Therapy first moved to Miami Lakes in November 2010 and later to its current location at 5901 N.W. 151 Street, Suite 202, in June 2012.
Menendez and Cribeiro first met during an advanced therapeutic class while attending school for massage therapy. Shortly thereafter they came up with the name Healing Waters, an amalgamation of both their names whose shared beginning letters “Mar” translates to “sea” in Spanish. Though the name stuck, it would be several years before the official birth of Healing Waters Massage Therapy as Cribeiro and Menendez moved to different cities and pursued different paths all the while keeping in touch.
Menendez studied Health Administration and Medical Marketing during this time and after years apart Cribeiro and Menendez reunited in 2007 as colleagues for their business endeavors. Cribeiro has continued her studies at Florida International University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Humanities and a master’s degree in Religious Studies. Additionally, Cribeiro received an Academic Achievement Award in 2010.
Cribeiro and Menendez both hold various certifications including degrees in Massage Therapy and Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy from Florida College of Natural Health, qualification as Reiki practitioners, trained in indigenous traditions and modalities, energetic alignment, inner and holistic wellness. Both are certified counselors as clergy members and well versed in traditional forms of healing like accupressure and more. They are licensed with the State of Florida Board of Massage, members of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association, are Nationally Board Certified and CPR Certified.
“We look at ourselves as a living bridge between the traditional and the alternative,” said Menendez. “For us massage is obviously one of the most effective and oldest ways to treat the body. Balance starts from within is our motto. That’s the foundation of our work.”

“We worked with Mater Academy for teachers to receive massages as part of Teacher Appreciation Day,” said Menendez. “It’s funny because all the teachers carried stress in the same areas since they all do a lot of the same movements for their occupation.”
Corporate events are also offered and Healing Waters Massage Therapy has done a series of massages for businesses such as law firms for employee days.
“Some people forget, after having three kids and working a 9-to-5 rushing through life, they forget to relax,” said Cribeiro. “We are a human machine and it needs maintenance. We are the mechanics.”
