A Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High student inspired by lessons learned in BizCamp has created an all natural hair product.
Sophomore Kimberly Downer, 15, who is enrolled in the school’s Digital Media Magnet program, says her Natural Beauty treatment does not have preservatives and keeps hair healthy and moisturized.
Downer developed the product during last summer’s camp, a program designed by The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.
It gives students at Hialeah-Miami Lakes the opportunity to receive startup funds to launch their businesses and pitch them to judges, teacher Ray Parris said.
Downer presented her business idea last summer, placed second out of 200 competitors and was awarded $300.
Downer’s next goal is to create a marketing plan. She is seeking distribution of her hair product with local beauty suppliers. So far, she says, she has sold 103 units through Instagram.
Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High, located at 7977 W. 12th Ave. in Hialeah, is offering BizCamp for the summer of 2020 to all enrolled students as well as to students in the Hialeah-Miami Lakes community. The application will be available soon. For more information email rparris@dadeschools.net or call 305-823-1330.
