Wellness Way has a new anchor.

Lakes Radiology,
 which has a nearly 20
year presence in Miami Lakes, opened a brand new, three-story building this month at 14575 Northwest 77th Avenue.

“I had the chance to buy the land three years ago and we grew with so many clients, so I went for it,” said Sammy Arriaga, 54, owner of the diagnostic imaging company.

Arriaga said he purchased the land three years ago for $1,650,000, and then built a $10 million headquarters.

It outgrew its former home, at 15600 NW 67th Ave. near Main Street.

The company’s new building is the first one drivers may notice as they leave the Gratigny Parkway or northbound Palmetto Expressway on exits that run parallel to Wellness Way.

Lakes Radiology is joining brand name health care providers established along the third-of-a-mile stretch toward Miami Lakes Drive.

They include Baptist Health Medical Plaza urgent care and diagnostic imaging, IMC Health and Nicklaus Children’s Miami Lakes, which offers an array of pediatric services.

Other health care neighbors are Catholic Hospice; Chiropractic and Rehabilitation of Miami Lakes; LifeStance Health psychological therapy center and Little Leaves Behavioral Services for children with an autism spectrum disorder.

Former Miami Lakes vice mayor and councilman Nelson Rodriguez initiated the co-designation of Northwest 77th Avenue as Wellness Way, which the town and state approved in 2014.

More than 50 people – elected town and state officials and business owners -- attended the unveiling of the new street sign, according to the town website.

“Over the years, North-west 77th Avenue has become a premier location for companies looking to establish a strong
presence in
Northwest
Miami
-Dade,” former Mayor Wayne Slaton said then. “Many of these companies are in the health care industry and the “Wellness Way” co-designation is a great way to showcase their presence along this important roadway.”

With Lakes Radiology joining such good company, Vice Mayor Luis Collazo said residents have a wide range of quality health care providers in town.

“The new home for Lakes Radiology with expanded services will ensure Miami Lakers have additional options for their health care needs close to home,” Collazo said.

The company will use the first and second floors of its new building; the third floor will be home to other businesses, including a physical therapy office.

Miami Lakes parent Gabriella Pinera says having so many services close to home is convenient, and she has already taken advantage of them.

“Once my daughter had a fever of 103 degrees and I was able to go to Nicklaus Urgent Care instead of going to a hospital,” Pinera said. “Once they saw her,
I was able to get the prescription and take it to my local pharmacy.”

Iris Berges, vice president of operations and clinical services at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, said in an email, “We are pleased that Miami Lakes features an ever-widening array of health care services and offerings to meet the needs of the families of this wonderful community.”

Lakes Radiology will continue to offer their usual services such as MRI, CT and PET- CT, nuclear medicine, Fluoroscopy, DexaScans, mammograms, ultrasounds and echodiagrams.

The new facility will have 3T (Tesla) high-definition MRIs and 3D mammograms available, which the company previously was unable to offer patients, according to Arriaga.

“Our services and equipment are A1, and it’s much easier to visit us than a hospital,” said Arriaga. “Now we can accommodate more clients, with a shorter wait time.”

Lakes Radiology, at 14575 NW 77th Ave., is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
