LIME, a leading shared mobility company with a multimodal fleet that includes pedal bikes, electric bikes and electric scooters, has announced an agreement with the Town of Miami Lakes to deploy dockless bikes throughout the municipality.
The move comes after the SPIN Bikeshare company decided to end its program in Miami-Dade County.
The LIME pedal bicycles, which will be phased into deployment throughout a six-week period, provide a safe and affordable transportation option to users while also reducing area traffic congestion and minimizing people’s carbon footprint.
“We’re very excited to bring a cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly alternative form of transportation to residents and workers in Miami Lakes, while also helping the town work to achieve its transportation goals,” said general manager of Lime Miami, Jed Fluxman.
The company entered a three-year agreement to deploy and maintain 150 bicycles, and the number can be increased based on usage and demand.
Miami Lakes has been added to a long list of areas in Miami-Dade County in which Lime currently offers dockless bikes. Cities include Miami Springs, Miami Shores, North Bay Village, North Miami, Key Biscayne, unincorporated Miami-Dade and local universities such as Barry University, Johnson and Wales and St. Thomas University.
LIME bikes possess GPS, 3G and self-locking technology in its fleet that allow bikes to be locked and opened by users with an app, and tracked to manage fleet operations. Thirty-nine percent of riders in urban markets reported using Lime to travel to or from work, school or appointments during their most recent trip, demonstrating how Lime is connecting communities with essential daily activities.
Rides cost 50 cents for every 30 minutes. The bikes can be parked anywhere within the Town as designated landscape/furniture zones on sidewalks. LIME’s ground operations team will place LIME bikes in an orderly fashion curbed on sidewalks a least six fee wide and at/or near bike racks and bike corrals. The company will ensure that bicycles are not obstructing pedestrian or motor vehicle traffic.
