The guest speaker for the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce’s first event of the new year is Mayor Manny Cid.
Cid, 33, will discuss the town’s plans for 2018 and past accomplishments during the group’s monthly membership meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 12 noon.
Cid, an associate at Horizon Properties of Miami, was voted the town’s mayor in 2016, and served as a council member from 2012 to 2016.
The 24-year Miami Lakes resident was a senior legislative aide to two state representatives in Tallahassee, and served on the town’s Youth Activities Task Force and Economic Development Committee.
His legislative duties included working on important legislations such as the Carbon Monoxide Safety Law and a bill which helped Florida International University recruit a new medical school facility.
In addition, he was part of various appropriations for Miami Lakes residents including securing funds for storm water drainage improvements.
Currently, Cid has served on the boards of various charitable organizations including the National Art Exhibitions of the Mentally III, and the Miami Dora Foundation, a non-profit organization which offers food, clothing, education, medical and dental care for poverty-stricken children.
He is also co-founder and former president of the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Republican Club and currently serves as a youth baseball coach at the Optimist Club of Miami Lakes.
Cid is a graduate of the Institute for Elected Municipal Officials, an educational program sponsored by the Florida League of Cities and the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government.
Cid and his wife, Melissa, have two young sons, and the family reside in the Villa Vizcaya community, where he serves as a board member of its Condominium Association.
