Three Miami Lakes residents were among the 14 inductees into the 2018 Miami Dade College Hall of Fame and helped break fundraising records for the highest sponsorship and attendance.
The April 3 16th Annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Hilton Miami Downtown raised $2 million, where more than 1,000 guests were on hand to watch MDC’s President Dr. Eduardo J. Padron recognize the honorees for their career accomplishments, public service and having a positive impact on the community.
The 2018 honorees are notable for their work as impresarios, public servants, and business and civic leaders in a variety of industries that range from music and broadcasting to banking and public safety. To date, more than 350 alumni have been inducted.
Miami Lakes residents Carlos E. Fernandez-Guzman, president and CEO of Pacific National Bank; Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band; and Miami Police Chief Jorge R. Colina were among 14 honorees. Fernandez-Guzman was honored for his expertise in the banking industry, Casey was inducted as a music legend and Colina for public safety.
The funds raised will be used for scholarships for current and future MDC students. About 109 individuals and organizations from the community were sponsors, including one of the College’s chief benefactors The Mitchell Wolfson Sr. Foundation. Other top sponsors included OHL-Arellano, City National Bank, Lennar Foundation, Leon Medical Centers, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
