For more than a decade, Alejandra Castro dreamed of being her own boss.
Earlier this year, that dream came true when she opened Miami Beauty Lovers salon and teaching studio.
“I have the liberty of growing my business and giving others jobs,” said Castro. “For 15 years I was an employee. But now I feel free as my own boss.”
The salon is at 8140 NW 155th St., just north of Miami Lakes Drive and east of Northwest 82nd Avenue.
A one-stop shop for all your pampering needs, it offers eyelash extensions, brows shaped with powder, henna and microblading; micropigmentation for lips, make-up application, facials and hair styling.
A Miami Laker, Castro, 34, has been a lash technician for three years.
Castro always had a vision of what having her own place would be like and chose her hometown to establish it.
“We’re located in Miami Lakes, a beautiful community that keeps growing each day,” she said.
Another goal was to share her skills with those who aspire to become professionals in the beauty business, and she teaches classes in eyelash application.
Castro said being a business owner has been tricky.
“It’s a lot of responsibility, but in the long run it’s worth it,” said Castro. “Opening a business during a pandemic sounds risky. But during these difficult times, many of us took the leap of becoming business owners.”
She has one employee and is training another.
Castro credits her fiancé, Jesus Tovar, 24, who’s also her business partner, with their successful launch.
“He’s my support system and helped me a lot,” she said.
Miami Beauty Lovers is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
