The Miami Lakes Bar Association installed new leadership during a virtual wine and chocolate tasting party.

The new officers sworn in on Jan. 21 were Joshua J. Hertz, president; Trinette Zarran, president-elect in 2022; Nayib Hassan, vice president; Stephanie Cruz, secretary and Nexcy Deimar De La Rosa-Monroe, treasurer.

Directors are Mayleidys Porraspita; Marc Ginsberg; Adry Polo; Mirelis Castilla; Elizabeth Quesada; Lorenzo Cobiella, who is also deputy town attorney in Miami Lakes; Joshua Dieguez, who is also a Miami Lakes councilman and Leslie Langbein.

Suzette Cruz is the student director.

The organization’s approximately 50 members’ plans for the year will depend upon restrictions from the pandemic, Hertz said.

In prior years, the lawyers have donated to charitable events such as the Mayor’s Gala and Feeding South Florida, Hertz said.

They also provided a free legal symposium on wills and probate issues for elders and co-sponsored candidate debates for state and town council races in 2020.

For members, the association held a continuing education forum about mental health and ethics, and legal training seminars.

The association also mentored law students who clerked for members.

“I hope we’ll keep doing remarkable things, including continuing education for our members and outreach to the community, growing our membership and to be recognized throughout Florida,” Hertz said.
