The Miami Lakes Garden Club invites residents of the town to a presentation given by Karin Fields, an urban gardening specialist. Before she became ‘the Edible Gardening Gal’ and an urban farming guru, Fields was a professional singer.
The singing career left her with a lot of free time during the daylight hours, which lead to her passion for gardening and growing food. The passion was so strong, that she decided to drop singing professionally to focus on teaching people, improving the world and making a difference.
These days, Fields is living that dream, giving frequent public and private lectures on the basics of home and urban gardening. She lectures at many libraries, and often works with children, teaching them about the origins of their food and how to coax sustenance from the ground.
The season is almost here, so to get a good solid start, the Miami Lakes Garden Club has invited ‘the Edible Gardening Gal’ herself to speak at the Mary Collins Community Center on September 24, at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the general public, and all guests will receive a packet of gardening information.
