Miami Lakes 4th annual Cars for Cure participant Nillo Ventura Junior received the Roberto Alonso Award for Best of Show presentation (pictured above), and a plaque was presented to the Graham family on behalf of Vida Custom Designs for allowing the show on Main Street. This year’s event raised about $29,000 and the proceeds will be donated to the University of Miami’s Sylvester Cancer Center for local research in finding a cure. Roberto Alonso Sr., Miami Lakes’ first vice mayor, founded the first classic car show on Main Street before he succumbed to cancer in 2013. His son, Roberto Alonso Jr., repackaged the event to honor his father. This year, the event attracted a record of more than 5,000 participants. Next year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
