Our Neighborhoods: Miami Lakes Business Park West - seventh in a series

Pastures with grazing Holstein dairy cows bookend the Lakeside Corporate Center, where four buildings holding a variety of businesses are based in Miami Lakes Business Park West

The buildings stand where Commerce Way begins to curve southwest and also have waterfront views of Graham Dairy Lake.

Miami Christmas Lights, a company that largely creates commercial and residential holiday displays, moved to the park from Miami Gardens in January.

“We looked at the strategic region of the area and the location of clients and as a service-based business, we want to be close to get to locations as quickly as possible,” President Kurt Stange said.

The company website shows projects, including the lighted anchor that descends in Fort Lauderdale on New Year’s Eve and the giant snowmen on the beach in that city; buildings on Brickell Avenue in downtown Miami, as well as decorations in other South Florida cities, casinos and Miami International Airport.

Stange said the company did a small project for Miami Lakes near the Palmetto Expressway overpass last Christmas season.

Like many other executives who are based in Business Park West, Stange said the location is ideal, as is the community aspect of Miami Lakes.

“It’s strategic for both our clients and for our employees,” Stange said. “We have employees who come from down south and it’s easier for them, and for our team that is up in Broward County, it’s easier for them to come down here.”

Other businesses in the park include Goji Group, which provides a variety of medical services; JJA Aviation, which repairs aircraft instruments and accessories; A.I.R.S.,  aviation instruments repair specialists, which tests and overhauls radios and other equipment; NV5, a global, publicly held engineering and consulting firm headquartered in Hollywood, Fla.; Universal Imaging and Radiology, a women’s health care screening center; International Vapor Group LLC; furniture seller Grako International and USA Acrylic which sells prints and acrylic in all forms from wall art and car wraps to raw materials.

In the 1980s, The Graham Companies developed the office park that is built along two miles on the west side of town.  The Miami Lakes Architecture and Control Committee for Commercial properties enforces protective covenants for the design and height of new buildings in the park.

This article is the seventh in a series about this unique neighborhood, which The Miami Laker will continue to explore in future reports.
