The Orange Bowl Committee elected Dr. Yvonne Turner Johnson as the new second vice chair, placing her in line to lead the 85-year-old non-profit in coming years.
Turner Johnson is chief medical officer of South Miami Hospital, a part of Baptist Health.
Turner Johnson, shown in the photo above, said in a press statement released March 30 that she was “honored” to have been elected.
“As a member, I have a deep respect for the long-standing history of the Orange Bowl Committee in service to the South Florida community,” she said.
A committee member since 2010, Turner Johnson has served on its board of directors for six years. With her election, she is third in line to assume the chairman’s role, the organization said.
Jeff E. Rubin is the current committee president and chair for 2020-21. He will be succeeded by president and chair-elect John P. (Jack) Seiler, first vice chair Frank Gonzalez and then Turner Johnson, the committee said.
Turner Johnson lives in Palmetto Bay with her husband Charles Phillips. They have six adult children.
The Orange Bowl, headquartered in Miami Lakes, is famous for its annual college football game.
Its 380 members include prominent business and community leaders who hold year ‘round events for youth sports, fundraising and academic scholarships.
