Plated is a company that is “changing the way America eats and reconnecting people to their food, one plate at a time.” Plated made its first food delivery in October 2012 in New York City and hasn’t slowed since.
Over the last two years Plated has moved from a small operation in the Big Apple to locations nationwide which now includes Miami Lakes at 13964 N.W. 60 Avenue.
Food is a passion for the creators and employees at Plated, and through meal deliveries the company has been able to offer food that is healthy, responsibly packaged, fresh and easy to make during a hectic schedule.
Each delivery consists of a recipe and the exact pre-portioned ingredients for that recipe which are sent fresh and locally-sourced from one of the many partnered farms across the nation. Each meal is planned and perfected by chefs at Plated’s headquarters and deliveries are done by subscription with a minimum of four plates per month which are chosen from the online menu.
Plated exclusively sources antibiotic-free and hormone-free meats, 100 percent sustainable and domestic fish that is almost exclusively wild-caught, and fresh produce that is fresh and handpicked from local farmers. The deliveries are also made with biodegradable packaging and the company plans to be carbon-negative by June of this year.
“Essentially, Plated changes the way people stock their refrigerators. People engage with fresh produce and high quality food.” said Vice President of Operations, Robert Code. “We take a very holistic approach to everything we do. We are still shopping sources that are as responsible as possible and deliver with almost entirely recyclable products. All delivery inserts are plant-based with the same thermodynamic qualities as regular insulation.”
Plated offers diverse meal plans that include meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and arrive at one’s doorstep between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Additionally, nutritional values are noted online. After receiving deliveries and placing them in the refrigerator, meals should stay fresh between 4 to 6 days for flexibility in meal planning. Each delivery feeds two and desserts are also available.
“We decided on Miami Lakes because the infrastructure is good,” said Code. “We looked at a lot of locations and Miami Lakes was really the best opportunity.”
The Miami Lakes distribution location will service not only Miami Lakes but also all of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina. Additionally, as a company that needs to be close to customers for deliveries, job opportunities are open to locals.
“All of our labor is local. One of our core values is to invest in the communities we are in,” Code told Miami Today.
Plated is scheduled to open its new center in mid-March. For more information visit www.plated.com.
