The Miami Laker has welcomed its newest staff member, Marketing and Advertising Representative, Quintin Valiente. Born in Havana and raised in South Florida, Valiente has always had a knack for technology. His curiosity as a child, which has stayed with him as an adult, led him to take apart and rebuild computers.

As time passed, Valiente still tinkered with gadgets but found a new passion on his screen rather than in his hard drive, that of design, marketing, social media and the psychology of advertising.

During Valiente’s time as a student at FIU pursuing a bachelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Business, he acquired the position of Social Media Wall operator at the Miami Open, formerly known as the Sony Ericsson Open. Prior to this position, he held a managerial marketing role at a tennis retail chain, which he cites as the experience that cemented his working knowledge.

“Joining The Miami Laker is an amazing opportunity to do something I enjoy and to advertise for my hometown. Being able to promote people and businesses that provide great services to the community is a privilege,” said Valiente.

Valiente’s attention to detail coupled with his fresh take on advertising will provide a cohesive experience for current and future Miami Laker advertisers. As a self-proclaimed enthusiast for both the classic and contemporary, it is fitting for Valiente to join a newspaper whose roots extend decades into the past and whose vision is looking toward the future.

“I really do enjoy the analog things in life,” said Valiente. “I love vinyls. I like being able to hold a book or a newspaper instead reading it on a tablet. I do understand the convenience and appreciate that technology is advancing but I feel both the former and modern way of doing things can work hand in hand. The best thing I can bring to the newspaper is preserving its history while bringing in the new.”

In his free time Valiente devotes his attention to his younger brother and in spending time with family. On his nightstand are the complete works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and his ultimate goal in this life is to create a legacy, something that will resonate with others.
