Business Wednesday, May 15, 2019

The Main Street Players and The Shakespeare Troupe Inc. presents Romeo and Juilet on May 25, 7 p.m. at The Main Street Playhouse located at 6766 Main Street.
In Shakespeare’s classic love story, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a pair of star-crossed lovers from two feuding families in Verona, Italy, meet at a masked ball and fall in love. Masks drop and the kissing begins. A marriage is subsequently arranged aided by Juliet's nurse and Romeo’s spiritual confessor, the Friar. Events then tumble out of control and fighting breaks out between the firebrands of the families.
When Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, he is banished from the city. In order to avoid an arranged marriage, Juliet fakes her apparent suicide. The woeful Romeo returns to Verona and follows his love to the grave. In a scene for the ages, Juliet awakes finding that her Romeo is dead and stabs herself with his knife.
Through the deaths of the young, the audience is drawn into the world of Verona, the experience of unbridled first love and the devastating consequences of hatred. All is told through the heartfelt passion and glorious language of the greatest poet of all time.
Shakespeare’s most popular play has been cut to one hour and is performed by a group of seven actors from the Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida fresh from their school tour of the play.
A talkback follows, making a 90 minute evening exploring the finest in classical entertainment. General admission tickets are $25 and may be purchased either online at www.mainstreetplayers.com or at the door 45 minutes prior to showtime. For more information call (305) 558-3737.
