The plot twists about whether CMX Cinemas Miami Lakes 17 would resume showing films this weekend were many, but like some Hollywood stories, there is a happy ending.
"CMX Cinemas Miami Lakes 17 will reopen its doors tonight, bringing back the magic of cinemas to the great Miami Lakes community," said Guy Austin, vice president of operations at CMX Cinemas.
After being shuttered six months, the movie house at 6711 Main St. planned to reopen Friday after Miami-Dade County said earlier in the week that theaters could resume business.
But when CMX Cinemas Miami Lakes 17 learned the county is temporarily banning the sale of candy, soda and other concessions in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it postponed the reopening.
Movie-goers must wear masks and maintain social distancing while indoors, per the county order. Any food service must take place in designated areas, and not inside theaters.
CMX Cinemas Miami Lakes 17 will not be serving food for the time being, Austin said.
Late Friday afternoon, everything changed and showtime Friday is at 6 p.m.
