Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee will host a Crowdfunding panel workshop on Thursday, February 23, in Town Hall Chambers, 6601 Main Street.
Networking and registration will take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and the workshop thereafter.
Co-sponsored by the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Small Business Administration, and MICROscholarships, Inc., the workshop will be moderated by Sheri Colas-Gervais of the Beacon Council.
In 2015, it was estimated that worldwide over $34 billion was raised through crowdfunding. Crowdfunding (or crowdsourcing) is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people.
Crowdfunding makes use of the easy accessibility of vast networks of people through social media and crowdfunding websites to bring investors and entrepreneurs together.
The workshop will educate participants about the federal and state regulations behind the market’s functionality. In addition to crowdfunding, the panel will discuss other forms of investment such as accredited investor, and the importance of a business plan and its role in obtaining investment.
Workshop panelists will include Senen Garcia of the SG Law Group; Raju Mohandas, founder of BridgePoint Financial Group; Orlando Espinosa, co-founder of MICROscholarships, Inc., and Eminio Media.
Space is limited and registration is required by contacting Nicole Singletary at singletaryn@miamilakes-fl.gov.
