How to recycle Christmas trees

Community Thursday, January 5, 2017

Northwest Miami-Dade residents, including Miami Lakes, who receive curbside waste collection service from Miami-Dade County, can recycle their Christmas trees by taking them to any one of the County’s Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) or the West Miami-Dade Home Chemical Collection Center.

All trees brought in for recycling must be free of tree stands, lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations. The trees will be converted to mulch which will be available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in February.

The closest TRCs to Miami Lakes are Palm Springs North, 7870 N.W. 178 Street, or North Dade Landfill, 21500 N.W. 47 Avenue. The Home Chemical Collection Center is located at 8801 N.W. 58 Street.

Much will be available at the North Dade Landfill. Residents need to bring their own bags or containers.

The last day to place trees at the curbside for pickup is Monday, January 9. Call 3-1-1 or visit www.miamidade.gov/solidwaste for details.
