Spend a Sunday afternoon strolling around Main Street to see more than 100 beautifully restored cars and trucks during the 10th Annual Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure show on March 29.
The free, family-friendly event happens from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Main Street.
A project of the Alonso family in memory of their late patriarch, Roberto Alonso, the show’s purpose is to raise funds for cancer research at UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Research Center. He was the town’s first vice mayor and loved cars before his death from a rare cancer. The family credits UM for providing treatment that prolonged his life.
Proceeds from the show are donated to the university; last year’s gift was $70,000.
For the past decade, The Graham Companies and Main Street Merchants have closed Main Street to traffic to support the show.
Performers are country musician Ricky Valido and Mantrap, a band that covers top hits from different genres.
There will be a Beer Garden, with two pigs roasted and more than 40 craft brewers providing beverages. Tickets for the Beer Garden are $35 presale, $40 on March 29. For more information go to MLCarsforaCure.com.
