The Miami Lakes town council awarded the Zonta Club of Miami Lakes a proclamation for their efforts against human trafficking during the Nov. 14 municipal meeting.
The Zontas are an international group of professional women who work to raise awareness about that crime and promote the rights of women and girls. Mayor Manny Cid declared Nov. 14 as Zonta Club of Miami Lakes Day to celebrate the group and their efforts.
“Next year marks 40 years in this town … we’re just a little part of it and we do a lot to help women in every way we can,” President Marie Korenstein said.
The group also helps local charities such as Lotus House and the Women’s Breast and Heart Initiative, among others. Shown from left: Councilman Ray Garcia; former Vice Mayor Carlos O.
