Jakalia Surmons  Library Assistant 1 Miami-Dade County Public Library System Miami Gardens

““Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom,” a young adult graphic novel [by Mo9Rang, Iru and Chana Conley],” Jakalia Surmons said.  “It’s about a woman who is reincarnated into a fantasy world who has a stepchild who is married to a king. The woman who previously lived in the body was super mean. It’s the total opposite [of the stepmom tale]. I also just read “Look the Part,” by Jewel E. Ann. It is an adult rom-com about a woman who breaks up with her husband [and meets a guy].”

Mariana Berrio  Event Specialist  Miami Dade College Hialeah Campus Pembroke Pines

“I am currently reading “Violeta” and the writer is Isabel Allende,” Mariana Berrio said. “It’s in Spanish. I usually read in English, but I am trying to read more in Spanish. It’s about her mom’s life. It talks about World War II and it talks about how things were and how they lived.”

Bryan Derricks Community and Digital Outreach Officer MPS Credit Union Miami Gardens

“I am reading “The Richest Man in Babylon” [by George Samuel Clason],” Bryan Derricks said. “It explains financial literacy and how to acquire wealth and different investments. It’s not only about how to improve your life, but your family’s life.”

Mitzania Polanco Co-Owner, Designer Collection Optical Miami Lakes

“[I’m reading] “Becoming Supernatural: How Common People are Doing the Uncommon” [by Dr. Joe Dispenza],” Mitzania Polanco said in Spanish. “The book is about neuroscience and the brain. How to work the chakras and how to raise energy [levels].”

Nancy Matos  Youth Services Specialist Miami-Dade County Public Library System  Country Club

“I have various, but currently from the Rick Riordan series, [my son and I] have both “The Chalice of the Gods” ... which is Greek mythology. And we’re starting the “Magnus Chase [and the Gods of Asgard]” series, which is Norse mythology,” Nancy Matos said. “We actually take that, to kind of spin off and talk about it. I also have “The House in the Cerulean Sea,” by TJ Klune. That’s one I have been reading on my own. [My coworker] recommended “Dial A for Aunties” [by Jesse Q. Sutanto]. It’s a comedy mystery.”
