Last year at this time, Angelica Perez was an American High School student who was involved in many things at school. But two of her main focuses were as a student in her photography class, and as an officer in the American High Art Club and National Honor Society.
Those roles were important for her because she was awarded the National Art Honor Society Florida Student Award for her photography at the Florida Art Education Association annual conference in Daytona Beach on October 12. The award is one of the most prestigious student art awards offered in the state of Florida.
Her photography teacher at American High, Tatiana Sainz, knew that Perez’s work was outstanding and helped her to enter several art competitions, resulting in her also winning one of the top awards in last year’s Dade County School’s art competition. Perez was mentored by Sainz and art teacher Ron Laffin, both of whom sponsored American High’s Art Club and National Art Honor Society.
Perez is currently a student at Miami Dade College’s Honors College where she is studying photography and graphic design.
