Applications being accepted for elderly and disabled persons storm prep

Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee (EAC) announced the formation of “Jerry’s Squad,” a Hurricane Preparedness Assistance Program for seniors or disable persons who require assistance to prepare their homes for an upcoming weather event.

An initiative of Vice Mayor Tony Lama, “Jerry’s Squad”  was created in memory of longtime resident, U.S.. Korean War veteran, and former Elderly Affairs Committee member Jerry Schneider. 

As an applicant, seniors (65 or older), or disabled persons, must fill out an application listing names, address, contact information, and indicate the type of assistance needed. Applications will be reviewed by the EAC to determine if the applicant meets the eligibility requirements.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must also apply and submit a background check form. 

Deadline to submit for both applicants and volunteers is Monday, May 15.
