Miami Lakes resident Angel Armesto, 19, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Armesto completed his Eagle Scout project in the spring of 2021. A member of Boy Scout Troop 566 and Sea Scout Ship 144, Armesto worked at Flamingo
Gardens in Davie where he created a tortoise enclosure for the project.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Armesto’s ceremony happened in September 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Miami Springs, according to Sean Schwinghammer, scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 566.
The event was attended by family members, Schwinghammer and a Board of Review to ensure that Armesto met the standards set for the rank.
He graduated from Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches and also earned an Associate in Arts degree in public administration from Miami Dade College, through the dual enrollment program. He attends Florida International University.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Administration at FIU, he hopes to attend law school.
