The Main Street Players is holding auditions for the play “This Random World” written by Steven Dietz and directed by Robert Coppel. Auditions will be held at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, on Monday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 7, from 7-9:30 p.m. Callbacks will be on February 8 from 7-9:30 p.m.

The play is about how people miss connections with each other during unexpected events. It emphasizes the idea of how life is unpredicted from moment to moment. Seven characters will be introduced and here are their breakdowns:

Scottie Ward – A woman in her 70’s who is fearless, resilient and secretive. She is sharp-witted despite physical limitations.

Tim Ward – Scottie’s son, who is in his late 20’s. A writer who is struggling for his path to success, he has an ironic sense of humor.

Beth Ward – Scottie’s daughter, who is in her late 30’s. Se is adventurous, unsettled and always on edge.

Bernadette – Scottie’s aide, an African-American woman in her 30’s. She has been aiding Scottie for the past four years. She’s a calming influence that masks her own family issues.

Rhonda – Bernadette’s younger sister who is in her late 20’s, is also African-American. She’s very odd and spiritual, but still very likable. She works at a funeral home as well.

Claire – Tim’s quirky ex-girlfriend from high school. She is in her late 20’s, constantly living in the past and struggling with herself. She thinks she’s not doing a great job in life.

Gary – Claire’s most recent ex-boyfriend. He’s in his 30’s and is searching for clarity after big changes in his job and his relationship with Claire.

Actors are required to bring a recent headshot and resume. Players will also need to anticipate reading from the script.

Performances for the play itself will be from April 13 until May 6.
