Building certification notices sent

Community Thursday, March 5, 2020

Have you received a notice that says your building is due to be recertified?
Owners of structures that were built in 1980 or earlier must be certified as safe buildings, per Miami-Dade County Code Section 8-11.
Single family homes, townhomes, duplexes, or structures that are 2,000 square feet or less and have 10 or fewer occupants are exempt from the process.
To have a building recertified, obtain a written report that is prepared by a professional engineer or architect who is registered in the state and provide it to the Miami Lakes Building Official, the town says.
The report should certify that the building’s structure and its electrical system are safe for its specified use.
After any necessary repairs, the next inspection would be scheduled in 10 years.
The recertification paperwork and guidelines may be found in the Forms tab at www.miamilakes-fl.gov/building.
