Aug. 17 Symphony of the Americas Summerfest 2024. Presented by the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee, the Symphony of the Americas features musicians from around the world and returns to Hope United Methodist Church for its annual concert of classical music. Aug. 18, 31, 25 and 28 Summer Open Fishing Fun. The Town of Miami Lakes will once again host fishing at the Optimist Park Marina during the summer. Bait, poles and safety vests are included for those signing up. Miami Lakes Optimist Park, 6411 NW 162 St. Wednesdays 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to noon. Free. Sept. 21 Miami Lakes Culinary Bike Tour. Enjoy food and drinks from Diced; Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar; Cruzeiro Brazilian Steakhouse; Açai Express; Chela’s Miami and other restaurants to be announced. Attendees must bring their own bikes; golf carts are not permitted. The Culinary Bike Tour will take off from Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St., 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. $30 regular admission, $50 to join the cycle party bus. All participants must be 21+. Aug. 29 Senior Field Trip to the Pérez Art Museum Miami. The Elderly Affairs Committee will host a field trip the Pérez Art Museum Miami for seniors ages 65+ to enjoy a tour of the museum. Registration is required. Bus departs at 9:45 a.m. from Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. Free.
Sept. 5 Book talk with Writer Marjan Kamali. The Cultural Affairs Committee presents a free virtual book talk with Iranian-American Marjan Kamali, the award-winning author of “The Lion Women of Tehran,” “The Stationery Shop” and “Together Tea.” Light refreshments will be served. A modern, dark comedic take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes.” Playwright Katie Hamill brings women together to solve a mystery.
