July 3 Senior Field Trip: Marlins Park. The Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee will head to loanDepot Park to watch the Miami Marlins take on the Minnesota Twins. Seniors 60+ are invited to enjoy this free event, seats are limited, pre-registration is required to attend. Register at toml.eventbrite.com. Bus departs from Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 10:30 a.m. and returns to Town Hall at 4 p.m. 

July 4 Fourth of July Celebration. Enjoy the annual free fireworks tradition at Veterans Park. MANTRAP will preform pop music; fireworks will fly at 9 p.m. to mark Independence Day. A Kids Zone will have fun games; a Sensory Inclusive Zone with games and noise reducing headphones will be presented by the Miami Lakes Special Needs Advisory Board at Mary Collins Community Center. Giveaways will include beach balls and flags. Trucks will sell food and drinks. Veterans Park, 15151 NW 82nd Ave. 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Leave pets, alcohol, grills, big flags and fireworks at home. Parking is free at seven office building lots around the park. Sponsors include The Graham Companies; Miami Lakes AutoMall; Commissioner Sen. Rene Garcia; First Origin Mortgage Lenders and Memorial Healthcare System. Expect traffic delays in the area before and after the event.

July 9 Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. Panel of business leaders will speak: Nancy Batista, Chief Executive Officer, Baptist Hospital; Fred Senra, Partner, Miami Lakes AutoMall and past president of the chamber and Felipe Basulto, Market President - Retail, TD Bank. Spotlight speaker is Damarys Isler, a member of the Impact Board of Ambassadors for the American Cancer Society in Miami-Dade County. July 18 – Aug. 3 “The Revolutionists” by Lauren Gunderson, presented by the Main Street Players. A “bold, hilarious call to action for art, feminism and resistance,” set during the French Revolution, according to the theater. Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. For tickets go to the theater box office 60 minutes before the show, at 6812 Main St., or online, MainStreetPlayers.com. Prices are $30 general admission, $25 for students, seniors and members of the military.

July 23 Senior Field Trip to the Actor's Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables to see the play “Step by Step” by Peter Quilter. Depart from Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. Check-in at 11:30 a.m., depart at 12:30 p.m., play begins at 2 p.m., bus leaves theater at 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sen. Aug. 7 Registration opens for a Book Talk with Christina Diaz Gonzalez Attorney and award-winning author of “The Red Umbrella,” “A Thunderous Whisper;” “Moving Target,” “Concealed;” “Invisible: A Graphic Novel,” and “The Bluest Sky.” Presented by the Cultural Affairs Committee, the Gonzalez will appear in person at Town Hall, 6601 Main St. on Sept. 4, 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Her books will appeal to readers of all ages. “The Red Umbrella,” which describes the journey of a 14-year-old girl who escapes Cuba and lands in Nebraska, will be of interest to those who fled aboard the Pedro Pan flights.
