During its June 10 regular meeting, the Miami Lakes Town Council proclaimed June 10, 2014 as “Main Street Players Day.”

“The Town Council is proud to recognize a cultural staple in our town, the Community Theater of Miami Lakes, also known as Main Street Players,” said Mayor Wayne Slaton. “Over the years the Main Street Players have captivated audiences of all ages with stellar theatrical production right here in the midst of our town.”

The Main Street Players is the longest running theater group in South Florida. The group was formed back in 1974 by then Hialeah Miami Lakes High School drama teacher Joe Boyd.

The group moved to Main Street in 2004.

The group was also recognized for awarding three scholarships last month to high school seniors involved in the performing arts.
