Just like people, dogs need fun, outdoor recreation to keep them happy and active. For people and their water-loving canines who crave being in the sand and surf, there’s nothing more exhilarating than a beach play-day.

By popular demand, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department has extended its weekend “Dogs on the Dunes” activity at Haulover Beach Park to now include Wednesdays. This park activity offers a unique opportunity for dogs and their owners to swim and play together in a designated beach recreation area for dogs.

The new operating schedule for “Dogs on the Dunes” is Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The site is located on the south end of the park between lifeguard towers #2 and #3 (directly across from the park’s 3.3-acre dog park).

Accommodations include a canine wash-down area and “doggie” bags. Dog owners are encourage to bring their own water to keep their pets hydrated. Signs are posted throughout the site to remind guests of beach etiquette.

Haulover Beach Park is located at 10800 Collins Avenue. Visitor parking for the dog recreation areas is $2 per vehicle (must have a dog in the vehicle). For more information, call 305-947-3525, or visit www.miamidade.gov/parks.
