Donation drive collects 2,000 pairs of shoes for homeless
A partnership between the Town of Miami Lakes and students at Archbishop McCarthy High School’s Loving Soles club led to a donation of more than 2,000 pairs of shoes to Camillus House, a charity in downtown Miami that serves the poor and homeless, the town said.
The Inguanzo siblings of Miami Lakes – Christopher, 13, and twins Susanna and Sophia, 15 – led an awareness campaign and placed donation boxes in eight area schools and several municipal buildings, according to their parents, Ramiro Inguanzo and Town Clerk Gina Inguanzo.
Donations were accepted for 30 days. The shoes were cleaned and sorted for children, men and women.
On March 15, Hilda Fernandez, the chief executive officer of Camillus House, arrived at town hall with staffers to accept the footwear. Photos courtesy of Ramiro Inguanzo.
