When Miami Lakes resident Ellica Quintero, age 11, served as Mayor for the Day, she was given an opportunity to propose a new Town event.
The Youth Activities Task Force adopted her proposal and the Town’s first official Ice Cream Social event to celebrate National Ice Cream Month will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Miami Lakes Picnic Park West, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.
Quintero, a straight A student at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, reached out to local ice cream vendors and businesses to turn her idea into a reality. Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Cold Stone Creamery, Frosty’s Lab Nitrogen Yogurt and Ice Cream, and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt will all be providing FREE ice cream to attendees.
The event, sponsored in part by The Graham Companies, Miami Lakes Auto Mall, Orange Theory Fitness, TD bank and the Town’s Cultural Affairs Committee, will include a rock climbing wall, inflatable slide, photo booth, face painting, music and more.
