Give Miami Day is on Thursday, Nov. 18, and there are more than 900 non-profit organizations in the county and 26 groups with ties to Miami Lakes, all hoping for donations to continue their good works.
Among them:
--Main Street Players on Main Street has a New Play competition, summer camp for kids and presents new dramatic plays in English and Spanish.
--The Education Fund, which gives free supplies and books to public school teachers and free food from school gardens to students.
--Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School hopes to improve its sound system and stage curtains and purchase new MacBooks, iPads and software.
--Catholic Hospice will use donations for clinical care, volunteer training and bereavement programs.
--Divine Flight Foundation supports mental health education for families.
--The PARK (Perform Acts of Random Kindness) Project hopes to recreate its website, launch a podcast and stage events driven by kindness.
--South Florida Youth Symphony wants to produce concerts, Drive-in events with projection screens and fund scholarships.
--HDS Foundation, which helps facilitate the success of teens and young adults with Autism and other unique abilities, will receive a dollar-for-dollar match received on Give Miami Day from the HDS Companies, up to $20,000.
