HOPE Miami Lakes United Methodist Church hosts Active Shooter workshop on Saturday, July 28

Religious Thursday, July 5, 2018

HOPE Miami Lakes United Methodist Church will host a free Active Shooter Workshop from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 28, at the church, 14800 N.W. 67 Avenue.

Many youth and teachers have share with the church that they are afraid to go to school and administrators thought that others might be too. So the question was what would help the community to overcome this fear and have hope in a crisis.

The church decided to call in an expert in law enforcement to advise what is best to do in an active shooter situation.

Armando D. Sotero, Jr., an international and dynamic motivational speaker who has combined experience in public speaking and law enforcement will provide workshop attendees with information on what to do in an active shooter situation, and communicate in a way that even a middle schooler will understand their best chance for survival in this type of crisis.

Registration is required for this free community event. Due to space limitations, the audience will be capped at 200 people. The workshop is age-appropriate for middle school aged children and beyond. Childcare will be provided for younger kids.

To register, visit www.hopemlumc. com and follow the link to the Eventbrite registration. For more information, contact the church at 305-821-7274.
