Hurricane season underway
Yes, it’s hurricane season.
And yes, it’s starting while we’re in the middle of a pandemic.
But we’re Miami Lakers.
We’ve survived storms and we can prepare for what may come until the season that began June 1 ends Nov. 30.
Make a list and get your survival kit ready.
When we are under a watch for a tropical storm that may strike within 48 hours, at a minimum you’ll want to have gas, gas and cash.
That is, fuel for your car, propane for the grill and cash in case there is a power failure and credit card systems don’t function.
Other items on the checklist that is recommended by Miami-Dade County:
--A gallon of water per day, per person, for five to seven days;
--Non-perishable snacks and packaged foods to last three to seven days;
--Prescription medications;
--Any special items needed for infants, the elderly or disabled;
--Flashlights, battery-powered radio and batteries;
--Pet food and water;
--Protect documents in a waterproof bag;
--Chargers for cellphones and other devices.
The county has an online guide at https://www.miamidade.gov/hurricane/library/guide-to-hurricane-readiness.pdf
